* Remember, if one number is x, the number after it can be represented by x+1. The third number is x+2, etc. Adding two consecutive numbers can be represented by x + (x+1). That simplifies to 2x + 1.
Adding eight consecutive numbers together would be x + (x+1) + (x+2) + (x+3) + (x+4) + (x+5) + (x+6) + (x+7). That simplifies to 8x + 28.
