Study for the test tomorrow!

Period 6: Remember!
This is how we came up with hard (fractions and distributing) math problems:

1. Choose a number to be our answer. That’s what our variable will be.
(x = 3)

2. Multiply it by something then add or subtract something from that product.
(2x + 10) (=16)

3. Find a divisor (a number that goes into that) and use it as a denominator.
(4 goes into 16, so let’s use fourths. Also, 1/4 of 16 = 4)

4. Choose a number for your numerator.
(Let's use 3. If 1/4 of (2x + 10) is 4, 3/4 of it is 12.)
(3/4)(2x + 10)

5. Make up something for the right hand side that equals your answer (12).
(Hmm. We could get 12 by taking half of 4x + 12.)

6. Write out your “hard” equation!
(3/4)(2x + 10) = (1/2)(4x + 12)

Congratulations, and try a couple of other problems to make sure you're ready for that test:

A) 2x - 5y + 2x - -2x + 3y
B) 15.1 - -3.82 + 1.03
C) 5x - 3 = -23
D) 2x + 7 = -3x + 4
E) (3/5)(3x + 8) = (2x + 6)

I'll post the answers tonight at 8:30pm.
